Key takeaways

New landing pages suit a specific campaign, service or audience that the current site handles badly, and they can be live in days. A full redesign suits a site whose core pages, structure or platform are failing. If most enquiries come from ads or one service, landing pages are often the faster, cheaper fix.

  • Landing pages: one campaign, service or audience, live in days.
  • Redesign: core pages, structure or platform failing.
  • Ads to a weak site? Build landing pages first.
  • Landing pages still need the main site to look credible.

What is the difference?

A landing page is a focused page built for one audience or campaign with a single call to action. A full redesign reworks the whole site's structure, content and design. Landing pages fix a specific gap quickly; a redesign fixes a general one.

When are landing pages the better choice?

When the problem is narrow.

  • Paid ads land on a general homepage.
  • One high-value service lacks a strong page.
  • A new audience or market needs testing.
  • A seasonal campaign needs a focused offer.
  • Budget or time rules out a redesign this year.

When do you need a full redesign instead?

When the main site undermines the landing pages. Visitors often click through to the homepage or About page before enquiring. If those look neglected, are slow or describe a different business, a strong landing page alone will not carry the enquiry.

What do landing pages cost compared with a redesign?

A single landing page often costs a few hundred to a couple of thousand pounds in the UK market, depending on copy, design and tracking. A redesign typically costs £3,000 to £12,000. Landing pages also produce results you can measure within weeks.

How do you make landing pages work?

Match each page to its source: the ad, email or search that brings visitors. Use one clear offer, proof relevant to that audience, a short form with phone and WhatsApp alternatives, and tracking with UTM parameters so results are clear.

Can landing pages lead to a redesign?

Yes, and it is often a good route. Landing pages test messages, offers and layouts cheaply. The ones that convert become the model for the redesigned service pages, so the redesign starts from evidence.

How many landing pages do you need?

One per distinct offer and audience, not one per ad. If you run ads for three services to two types of buyer, you may need up to six pages, but start with the combination that has the most budget or the most potential and add others as results justify them.

Each landing page needs its own message, proof and tracking, so more pages mean more upkeep. A few well-maintained pages that match your main campaigns will outperform a large set of neglected ones, and they are easier to keep accurate when prices or offers change.

  • One page per offer and audience combination.
  • Start with the highest-value combination.
  • Give each its own message, proof and tracking.
  • Retire pages when campaigns end.

What does this look like in practice?

A pattern in UK hospitality: a venue's ads for private dining land on the homepage, and bookings are low. A dedicated private dining page with menus, capacity, prices, photos and an enquiry form lifts bookings within weeks, and later becomes the template for other event pages in the redesign.

Decision checklist

Answer these to choose.

  • Is the problem one campaign, service or audience?
  • Do ads or campaigns land on general pages?
  • Is the main site credible enough to support a landing page?
  • Is the platform supported and secure?
  • Can you measure results with tracking and UTMs?
  • Choose landing pages for narrow gaps; redesign for broad ones.

Frequently asked questions

Should I build landing pages or redesign my website?

Build landing pages when the problem is narrow, such as one campaign, service or audience, and the main site is credible. Redesign when core pages, structure or platform are failing, because weak main pages will undermine even strong landing pages.

Can a landing page replace a website?

For a single offer or test, briefly. Most buyers still check the main website, About page and reviews before enquiring, so a landing page works best alongside a credible main site rather than instead of one. Keep the main site credible alongside it.

How much does a landing page cost in the UK?

Often a few hundred to a couple of thousand pounds, depending on copywriting, design, integrations and tracking. It is usually much cheaper and faster than a redesign, and results can be measured within weeks. Measure results with UTMs and key events.

Do landing pages help SEO?

They can if they target a real search topic with useful content. Pure campaign pages for ads are often excluded from search deliberately. Service-focused landing pages with helpful detail can rank and later become permanent service pages. Decide per page whether search matters.
