Key takeaways

This social media consistency checklist covers 20 checks across the five parts of consistency: cadence, format, voice, replies and review. Run it monthly. Fix any failed check in cadence or replies first, because those are the ones buyers notice first and the ones that break most often.

  • 20 checks across cadence, format, voice, replies and review.
  • Fix cadence and replies first. Buyers notice them first.
  • Run the checklist monthly, in about 20 minutes.
  • Most businesses fail review checks before any others.

Why use a consistency checklist?

Because consistency fails quietly. A reply takes a bit longer, a week gets missed, the template drifts. A monthly checklist catches these small slips before they become gaps that prospects notice. It turns the GBL Consistency Scorecard into specific actions.

Cadence checks

  • Cadence is written down for each channel.
  • It is achievable in your busiest month.
  • You posted on plan in each of the last four weeks.
  • Next month's posts are batched or scheduled.
  • A content bank of five evergreen posts is ready.

Format and voice checks

  • Each recurring series has a template.
  • Your last nine posts look like one business.
  • A one-page voice guide exists and is used.
  • Captions sound the same whoever writes them.
  • The bio is current: what, who for, where and how to contact.

Reply checks

  • All comments with questions were answered within one working day.
  • Direct messages were answered the same working day.
  • A named person and backup own replies.
  • Saved replies exist for common questions.
  • Out-of-hours auto-replies are set.

Review checks

  • A monthly review happened last month.
  • Five business numbers were compared with a 12-week average.
  • One change was decided and written down.
  • Last month's change was checked.
  • Two people have admin access to every account.

What does this look like in practice?

A UK property letting agency ran the checklist and passed 11 of 20 checks. Its failures were concentrated in replies and review: messages waited over weekends, and nobody had looked at the numbers in months. It fixed those first with a Saturday check and a monthly review. Two months later it passed 18 of 20, and landlord enquiries through social media had risen.

What should you fix first?

Fix failed checks in this order: access (two admins), replies, cadence, review, then format and voice. Access protects everything else. Replies and cadence are what buyers see first. Review stops mistakes repeating. Format and voice build recognition over months and can be improved steadily.

How does the checklist change for different businesses?

  • Solo owners: focus on cadence, replies and the content bank.
  • Multi-location groups: add a check per location.
  • B2B firms: add a check for founder or staff posts.
  • Seasonal businesses: add a slow-season cadence check.
  • New businesses: add Google Business Profile and bio checks.

Next step

Run the 20 checks today and fix the failed cadence and reply checks this week. Repeat monthly.

Frequently asked questions

What should be on a social media checklist for small business?

Checks across cadence, format, voice, replies and review: whether you posted on plan, whether posts look and sound consistent, whether replies were prompt, whether you reviewed numbers and made a change, and whether account access is secure.

How often should I run a social media checklist?

Monthly, in about 20 minutes. Weekly checks of posting and replies are useful too, but the full checklist is best alongside a monthly review.

What is the most important part of social media consistency?

Cadence and replies, because buyers notice them first. A long gap or an unanswered public question is visible to every prospect who checks your profile. Format, voice and review matter too but work more quietly.

How do I make my social media more consistent?

Set a cadence you can hold in your busiest month, batch posts monthly, keep a content bank, use templates for recurring series, name owners for replies and run a monthly review with one change each month.

Can I use this checklist for an agency I work with?

Yes. Ask your agency to report against the same checks monthly. It is a quick way to see whether the partnership is delivering a consistent system, alongside business results such as enquiries and branded searches.
