Key takeaways

Social media ad creative cost covers designing and editing the images and videos your ads run on. As indicative UK figures, a set of 3 to 5 image variations takes 3 to 6 hours, about £225–£600, and a video ad edited from your footage is about £110–£400. Plan a refresh every few weeks.

  • £225–£600 is the indicative cost of a set of 3 to 5 image ad variations.
  • A video ad edited from supplied footage costs about £110–£400.
  • Testing several variations beats paying for one perfect ad.
  • Creative is usually priced separately from the ads management fee.

What is ad creative?

Ad creative is the visual and written part of a paid social ad: the image or video, the headline, the main text and the call to action. Ads management is a separate job: targeting, budgets, bids and reporting. Many quotes include only management, so check who makes the creative.

How much does a set of ad creative cost?

A set of 3 to 5 image variations with headlines takes about 3 to 6 hours to design and write, which is £225–£600 at the £75–£100 an hour implied by typical UK retainers. Editing a video ad from your footage takes 1.5 to 4 hours, about £110–£400. These are indicative figures, not a GBL price list.

  • Image ad set, 3 to 5 variations: indicative £225–£600.
  • Video ad from supplied footage: indicative £110–£400.
  • Resizing for Stories, Reels and feed: usually small extra.
  • New filming or UGC: priced separately.

Why do you need several variations?

Platforms like Meta use your variations to find what works for each audience. One ad gives the system nothing to compare. Three to five versions with different hooks, images or offers let the data show which message brings enquiries, so the budget follows the winner.

How often should ad creative be refreshed?

Creative needs refreshing when results fall as the same people see the same ad repeatedly. For small local audiences that can happen within a few weeks. Budget for a new set of variations roughly monthly on an always-on campaign, and less often for short bursts.

How much creative does an ad budget need?

A rough working rule: the smaller the media budget, the fewer variations you need, because there is too little spend to test many. On a few hundred pounds a month, three variations are plenty. Larger budgets can test more. Do not spend more on creative than the ads can test.

When is cheap ad creative a false saving?

Cheap creative is a false saving when it looks like an ad and says nothing specific. People scroll past generic stock images. Creative built from your real work, a clear offer and a plain call to action usually lowers the cost per enquiry enough to cover its own price.

What does this look like in practice?

A pattern we see with UK trades and clinic clients: the same ad runs for months and enquiries fade. Global Bridge Labs (GBL) builds a small set of variations from real job photos and customer questions, retires the weakest each month and replaces it, so the campaign keeps learning.

Ad creative checklist

Agree these before any campaign starts.

  • Number of variations per set.
  • Formats and sizes needed for each placement.
  • Who supplies photos, footage and offers.
  • How often creative is refreshed.
  • Whether creative is in the management fee or extra.

Frequently asked questions

How much does social media ad creative cost in the UK?

As indicative figures at UK agency rates of £75–£100 an hour, a set of 3 to 5 image ad variations takes 3 to 6 hours and costs about £225–£600. A video ad edited from your footage costs about £110–£400. New filming or creator content is priced separately.

Is ad creative included in a paid social management fee?

Sometimes. Many management fees cover targeting, budgets and reporting only, with creative charged separately. Ask the agency to state how many creative variations per month the fee includes and what a refresh costs, so you can compare quotes fairly.

How many ad variations should I test?

Three to five is a sensible start for most small budgets. Each variation should change one clear thing, such as the hook, image or offer, so you can see what made the difference. Too many variations on a small budget spreads spend too thin to learn anything.

Can I use my organic posts as ads?

Yes, and a post that already performs well organically is often a good ad candidate. Check the post has a clear call to action and that any music or images are licensed for advertising, because organic licences do not always cover paid use.
