Key takeaways

A Snapchat ads budget is only worth testing if your buyers are mostly under 30. Snapchat reaches many younger UK users, has a low daily minimum, and a two- to three-week test at £10–£20 a day, about £200–£400, will show whether it beats your existing platforms on cost per result.

  • Test only if most of your buyers are under 30.
  • £10–£20 a day for 2–3 weeks is enough for a first test.
  • Vertical, full-screen video with sound is the native format.
  • Compare cost per result with Instagram and TikTok.

Who can you reach on Snapchat?

Snapchat is used heavily by younger people in the UK, as Ofcom's media use research shows. That makes it relevant for student services, entertainment, fast food, fashion, events and local leisure aimed at young adults. Products for older buyers rarely justify the spend.

What does a small test cost?

Snapchat's daily minimum per ad set is low, a few pounds, so a small test is possible. Illustrative test: two short vertical videos, one audience, £15 a day for 21 days, about £315. Measure swipe-ups, visits and sales against the same spend on Instagram or TikTok.

What rules apply to advertising to young people?

The CAP Code restricts ads for alcohol, gambling and some foods aimed at under-18s, and Snapchat applies its own age targeting rules. If you sell age-restricted products, target only over-18s and check both the CAP Code and Snapchat's policies before spending.

When should you not test Snapchat?

When your main platform is still underfunded, when you cannot make vertical video, or when your buyers are mostly over 35. Adding a platform takes budget from one that may already work. Fund the main platform properly first.

What does this look like in practice?

A pattern we see: a business targeting young adults spends only on Facebook and wonders why results are weak. A short Snapchat or TikTok test usually shows quickly whether that age group is cheaper to reach elsewhere.

Snapchat budget checklist

  • Confirm most buyers are under 30.
  • Plan £200–£400 for a two- to three-week test.
  • Make vertical, full-screen video with sound.
  • Check age rules for your product.
  • Compare cost per result with your main platform.

Next step

Check the age range of your last 50 customers. If most are under 30, plan a three-week Snapchat test with two vertical videos.

Frequently asked questions

How much do Snapchat ads cost in the UK?

You set your own budget, and the daily minimum per ad set is low. Many small businesses test with £10–£20 a day for two to three weeks. What you pay per result depends on your audience, creative and competition, so compare it with your other platforms.

Is Snapchat good for small businesses?

It can be for businesses selling to younger adults, such as food, fashion, events and leisure. For buyers over about 35, Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn usually reach more of them more cheaply. Test against your current platform before committing. Keep the test short and measured.

What ads work best on Snapchat?

Short, vertical, full-screen videos that feel like normal Snapchat content, with sound and a clear action in the first seconds. Polished adverts made for television or desktop tend to be skipped quickly, wasting budget. Test two versions and keep the one with the lower cost per result.
