Key takeaways

The Google Business Profile website link usually points to the homepage, and the visitors it sends are local, high-intent and often on a phone. They have seen your reviews and location already, so the homepage should confirm the service and area and make the next step instant. If one service dominates, consider linking to that service page instead.

  • GBP clicks are local, high-intent and often on mobile.
  • They have seen reviews; give them the next step fast.
  • Tag the link with UTMs to see it clearly in GA4.
  • Link to a service page if one service dominates.

People who click your Business Profile's website link have usually searched for a local service, seen your listing on Maps or in search, read some reviews and want to know more. They are among the warmest visitors you get, and most are on phones. Many will call directly from the profile instead; the click-throughs want a bit more information first.

What do they expect from the homepage?

They expect the page to confirm what the profile suggested: the service they searched for, in their area, with the reviews they saw. Then they want an easy next step. A homepage that opens with something unrelated makes them go back to Maps and try the next listing.

The homepage is right when you offer one main service or a closely related group. If most profile searches are for one service, such as 'emergency electrician', linking to that service page can serve them better. Multi-location businesses should link each location's profile to its own location page.

How do you measure profile visitors?

Add UTM parameters to the website link in your profile, such as utm_source=google and utm_medium=organic and a campaign name such as gbp. GA4 will then show these visits separately from ordinary search. The profile's own performance view shows calls and direction requests too.

When is the website not the main route?

For urgent local services, many people call straight from the profile without visiting the site. That is fine. Keep the profile's phone number, hours and photos accurate, because for those buyers the profile is the homepage.

What does this look like in practice?

A pattern we see: a profile with strong reviews linking to a homepage that does not mention reviews or the area. Adding a review line and the area to the hero, and tagging the link, usually shows profile visitors converting better than any other homepage source.

  • Tag the profile's website link with UTMs.
  • Check the homepage confirms service and area.
  • Show the same review score as the profile.
  • Link to a service page if one service dominates.
  • Keep hours, phone and photos accurate on the profile.

Next step

Add UTM tags to your profile's website link today, then check in a month how those visitors behave compared with other homepage traffic.

Frequently asked questions

Which page should my Google Business Profile link to?

Usually the homepage, if it clearly confirms your main service and area. If most profile searches are for one service, link to that service page. Businesses with several locations should link each profile to the matching location page.

How do I track Google Business Profile clicks in GA4?

Add UTM parameters to the website link in your profile, such as utm_source=google, utm_medium=organic and utm_campaign=gbp. GA4 then reports these visits separately, so you can see how profile visitors behave on your site.

Do Google Business Profile visitors convert well?

They are often among the best-converting visitors because they are local, have seen your reviews and are actively looking for the service. If they do not convert, check whether your homepage confirms what the profile promised.
