Key takeaways

What to do after posting on social media matters as much as the post. In the first hour, check the post published correctly, reply to every early comment, share it to Stories, answer any messages it brings, and note anything unusual. Ten to fifteen minutes is enough. Early, real replies help the post reach more people and turn interest into conversations.

  • 10 to 15 minutes in the first hour after each post.
  • Check it published correctly: image, link, tags.
  • Reply to every early comment with more than a thank-you.
  • Share to Stories and answer messages the post brings.

Why does the first hour matter?

Platforms look at how people respond to a post when deciding whether to show it to more people, and comments with replies are a strong signal. The first hour is also when the people most interested see it. A comment answered quickly often turns into a message; one answered the next day rarely does.

What should you do, in order?

A short routine for each post:

  • Check it published: image, caption, link and tags are right.
  • Share it to Stories, if the platform has them.
  • Reply to each comment with something useful or a question.
  • Answer any messages it brings, the same hour if possible.
  • Note anything unusual, good or bad, in the calendar.

How should you reply to comments?

Reply with more than 'thanks': answer the question, add a detail, or ask something back. If a comment shows buying interest, such as 'how much would that be?', reply publicly that you will message, then message. Handle negative comments calmly and take detail to a private conversation.

What if something is wrong with the post?

Fix it straight away. Edit a typo or a wrong link if the platform allows; delete and repost if the image or offer is wrong, ideally before it gathers comments. If the post caused a problem, such as a wrong price someone has acted on, deal with that customer directly and fairly.

When can you skip the first hour?

On quiet posts in quiet periods, a reply check later the same day is fine. Never skip it for offers, launches or posts that ask a question, because those are the posts people respond to.

What does this look like in practice?

A pattern we see: posts scheduled for 8am and not looked at until the evening, by which time several 'how much?' comments have gone unanswered. Booking 15 minutes after each post usually turns some of those comments into conversations.

After-posting checklist

  • Check the post published correctly.
  • Share it to Stories.
  • Reply to every early comment.
  • Message anyone showing buying interest.
  • Note anything unusual in the calendar.

Next step

Look at next week's posting times and book 15 minutes after each one for the person who will reply.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do after posting on social media?

In the first hour, check the post published correctly, share it to Stories, reply to every comment with something useful, answer any messages it brings and note anything unusual. Ten to fifteen minutes is usually enough.

Does replying to comments help reach?

Platforms consider how people respond to a post when deciding who else sees it, and real conversations in the comments are a positive signal. More importantly, quick replies turn interest into enquiries.

What if I notice a mistake in a post after publishing?

Fix it straight away. Edit small errors if the platform allows, or delete and repost if the image, price or offer is wrong. If a customer has acted on a wrong price, deal with them directly and fairly.
