Key takeaways

A mid month social media check takes 15 minutes and looks at four things: posts published against planned so far, the status of the next seven days, whether every comment and message was answered, and progress towards the month's goal. It ends with one decision, such as moving a goal post earlier or dropping a slot. It is a course correction, not a second planning session.

  • 15 minutes around the 15th, same time each month.
  • 4 checks: published, next 7 days, replies, goal.
  • End with one decision, written in the calendar.
  • Do not redesign the month halfway through.

What do you check halfway through the month?

Check four things in order. Published against planned so far, which tells you whether the plan fits. The status of every post due in the next seven days. Whether replies have kept up, including messages. And progress towards the month's goal, such as enquiries so far against the target.

What decisions can come out of it?

One decision is usually enough. If you are behind on posts, drop the weakest slot for the rest of the month. If the next week is not ready, swap in reserve posts. If replies slipped, book cover. If the goal is behind, move a goal post earlier, add a Story reminder or put a small budget behind the best post.

Why not wait for the month-end review?

Because by month end the chance to fix the month has gone. A slipping goal at the 15th can still be rescued; at the 31st it can only be explained. The mid-month check is short so that it actually happens.

How do you keep it to 15 minutes?

Use the calendar's status column and a count of enquiries, nothing else. Do not open full analytics or start replanning. If something needs more than a quick decision, note it for next month's planning session.

When can you skip it?

Skip it in a month with no goal beyond steady posting, if the status column shows everything scheduled and replies are up to date. Never skip it in a month with an offer, a launch or an event.

What does this look like in practice?

A pattern we see: problems found only at month end, when half the posts were never made and the offer underperformed. A 15-minute check on the 15th usually catches both while there is time to act.

Mid-month checklist

  • Book 15 minutes around the 15th.
  • Count published against planned.
  • Check the next seven days' statuses.
  • Confirm replies are up to date.
  • Check the goal and make one decision.

Next step

Put a recurring 15-minute event in the calendar owner's diary for the 15th of every month, titled 'social media halfway check'.

Frequently asked questions

Should I review my social media plan halfway through the month?

Yes, briefly. A 15-minute check around the 15th of published against planned posts, the next seven days, replies and progress towards the goal lets you fix problems while the month can still be rescued.

What should I do if my social media is behind mid-month?

Make one decision: drop the weakest slot, swap in reserve posts, book reply cover or move a goal post earlier. Do not try to redesign the month or catch up by doubling posts.

How long should a mid-month social media check take?

About 15 minutes, using only the calendar's status column and a count of enquiries. Anything that needs more thought goes on the agenda for next month's planning session rather than being fixed on the spot.
