Key takeaways
Appeal immediately through the official route, tell your customers where to find you within 24 hours, and accept that recovery can take weeks with no guarantee. The businesses that survive a suspension are the ones that could contact customers another way.
- Appeal through the official form only. Third-party recovery services are a scam risk.
- Tell customers within 24 hours through email, website and any other channel.
- Recovery takes days to months. Plan for the long end.
- Do not create a duplicate account. It usually gets removed too.
- The real lesson is dependency. Fix that once you are trading again.

Chat on WhatsApp →Why do business accounts get suspended?
Most often for automated policy enforcement rather than deliberate wrongdoing. Common triggers include sudden changes in posting behaviour, logging in from a new country, prohibited product categories, copyright claims, mass reporting by others, and payment or verification problems.
Errors are common, because enforcement is largely automated at the first stage. That is frustrating and it is also the reason a well-made appeal frequently succeeds. It is rarely personal and it is rarely quick.
What should you do in the first 24 hours?
Five things, in this order, and the second matters more than the first.
- Submit the official appeal. Read the stated reason carefully and address it specifically.
- Tell customers where to find you: email, website banner, any other channel you hold.
- Check your other accounts, since linked accounts are sometimes affected together.
- Secure everything else: change passwords, confirm two-factor is on everywhere.
- Write down the date, the reason given and any reference number.
What does the appeal process realistically achieve?
Sometimes a reversal within days, sometimes nothing for months, and occasionally no response at all. There is no service level, no escalation route for a small business, and no regulator to complain to about a commercial platform's account decisions.
Keep the appeal factual and specific. Address the stated reason, provide any requested verification promptly, and avoid submitting repeatedly, which can push you further back. Do not pay anyone claiming they can restore your account: those offers are almost always fraudulent.

Chat on WhatsApp →How do you keep trading in the meantime?
By using every route you own. Email your customer list, put a banner on your website explaining the situation plainly, update your Google Business Profile, and tell people in any community groups where you are active.
Customers are generally understanding about this if you tell them. What damages a business is silence, because a suspended account plus no explanation reads exactly like a business that has stopped trading.
Should you start a new account?
Not while an appeal is live. Creating a duplicate account is usually itself a policy breach and commonly results in the new account being removed and the appeal weakened.
If the appeal ultimately fails, start fresh with a different name variant, and use the opportunity to build the email list you should have had. Rebuilding an audience is slow, but a rebuilt audience that you can also reach by email is worth more than the one you lost.
What does this look like in practice?
A UK independent bike shop lost its main account overnight with no explanation beyond a generic policy reference. It had around 12,000 followers and no email list.
The appeal succeeded after seven weeks. During that time the shop emailed the few hundred addresses it had from repairs, put a notice on the website and posted in two local groups, which kept enough trade going to survive. The first thing it did afterwards was start collecting email addresses at the counter.
What should you write in the appeal?
Something short, factual and specific to the stated reason. Appeals are triaged, and a long account of how important the account is to your business does not help the person or system reading it.
Name the business, state what it does, address the specific policy cited, and provide whatever verification has been requested. If you genuinely do not know why it happened, say so plainly and ask what evidence would help rather than speculating.
Submit once and wait. Repeated submissions frequently push a case back in the queue, and multiple contradictory appeals make the situation harder to resolve rather than faster.
Keep a copy of what you submitted and the date, along with any reference number. If the case is escalated later, or if you need to show a payment provider or an insurer what happened, that record is the only evidence you will have.
Next step
Whether or not this has happened to you, check today that you could contact your customers without any social platform. If you could not, that is the actual problem, and a suspension is only the event that reveals it.
Message us on WhatsApp and we will build your backup route to customers this month.

Frequently asked questions
Why do business social media accounts get suspended?
Usually automated policy enforcement rather than any deliberate wrongdoing: sudden changes in posting behaviour, logins from a new country, restricted product categories, copyright claims, mass reporting by others, or payment and verification problems. Errors are common.
How long does it take to recover a suspended account?
Anywhere from days to months, with no service level and no escalation route for a small business. Plan for the long end, and never pay a third party claiming they can restore it, as those offers are almost always fraudulent.
Should you create a new account while appealing a ban?
No. Creating a duplicate account is usually itself a policy breach, and it commonly results in the new account being removed as well and the original appeal being weakened. Wait for the outcome before starting anything new.
How do you keep trading while your account is suspended?
Use every route you own: email your list, put a plain banner on your website, update your Google Business Profile and post in local groups. Silence is what damages you, because it reads as a business that has closed.
