Key takeaways

X ads management typically costs £300–£1,000 a month in the UK, separate from the media budget and from organic X management. The work is audience set-up, ad copy, testing and reporting. It is worth paying for when your buyers follow news, sport, tech or politics on X; otherwise the same money usually works harder on Meta or LinkedIn.

  • £300–£1,000 a month for management, plus ad spend.
  • Organic X posting is priced separately.
  • Best for news, sport, tech and live-event audiences.
  • Check brand safety settings before launch.

What is the difference between X management and X ads management?

X management means running your organic account: posts, replies and monitoring. X ads management means running paid campaigns: targeting, bids, ad copy and creative, conversion tracking and reporting. They are separate jobs, so most agencies quote them separately, and you can buy one without the other.

How much does X ads management cost?

At £75–£100 an hour, 4 to 10 hours a month of ads work gives £300–£1,000. A first set-up of the ads account, tracking and audiences adds an indicative £300–£800. Media spend is paid to X separately. These are indicative market ranges, not a GBL rate card.

  • Management: £300–£1,000 a month.
  • Set-up: £300–£800 one-off, indicative.
  • Creative: priced per asset or within the retainer.
  • Media: paid to X on top.

Who gets value from X ads?

X ads tend to work for brands tied to live moments: sports, events, media, tech launches and public affairs. Targeting by keyword and conversation can reach people as a topic trends. For local services and most consumer retail, results are usually weaker than on Meta.

When should you not pay for X ads management?

Do not pay for it if your buyers are not active on X, if you cannot react quickly to live conversations, or if your brand safety rules rule out appearing next to unpredictable content. Check the placement and brand safety controls before you approve spend.

What does this look like in practice?

A pattern we see: a business keeps paying for X ads out of habit while most enquiries come from Meta or Google. Comparing cost per enquiry across platforms for one quarter usually settles whether X keeps its share of the budget.

X ads checklist

  • Confirm your buyers are active on X.
  • Get organic and paid work quoted separately.
  • Set brand safety and placement controls.
  • Track enquiries, not just engagements.
  • Compare cost per enquiry with your other platforms.

Next step

Pull last quarter's cost per enquiry for each platform you advertise on. If X is the most expensive, ask whether it still earns a management fee.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to have someone run X ads?

Most UK agencies charge £300–£1,000 a month to manage X ads, plus the media budget paid to X and an indicative £300–£800 for set-up. Organic posting on X is a separate service and is usually quoted separately.

Are X ads cheaper than Facebook ads?

Sometimes per impression, but the useful comparison is cost per enquiry or sale. For most UK small businesses, Meta still produces more measurable results per pound. Compare your own numbers over a quarter rather than relying on averages.

Can I run X ads without posting organically?

Yes. Paid campaigns can run from an account that posts rarely, though buyers who click through to a dormant profile may be put off. A handful of recent, relevant posts usually helps paid campaigns convert.
