Key takeaways

Facebook ad scheduling lets you run ads only at chosen hours or days, which suits businesses that must answer calls or messages quickly. On Meta it has historically required a lifetime budget. For online sales and enquiry forms, letting the platform run ads all day usually works better.

  • Schedule ads when quick replies decide the sale.
  • Meta ad scheduling has typically needed a lifetime budget.
  • Forms and online sales usually work best running all day.
  • Check your own results by hour before restricting.

When is ad scheduling worth it?

When the ad asks people to call or message and you can only answer in working hours. Missed calls in the evening waste the click and the goodwill. Restaurants taking same-day bookings and trades answering urgent calls are common examples.

How do you set it up?

On Meta, choose a lifetime budget with start and end dates, then set the ad schedule at ad set level; check the current options in Ads Manager, as they change. Google Ads lets you add an ad schedule to most campaigns with any budget type.

When should you not schedule?

When people can act at any time, through a form, booking system or online shop. Many browse in the evening and convert then. Restricting hours also gives the platform less room to find cheap results, which can raise costs on small budgets.

How do you decide from data?

Look at when enquiries and sales actually arrive and when replies happen. If evening enquiries convert well because you reply next morning, keep ads running. If evening calls go unanswered and are lost, scheduling or an auto-reply is worth testing.

What does this look like in practice?

A pattern we see: a trades business runs call ads at night, and most calls go to voicemail and are never returned. Limiting ads to working hours, or adding a clear message option, usually lifts the share of clicks that become jobs.

Ad scheduling checklist

  • Check when enquiries arrive and are answered.
  • Schedule only ads that need a live reply.
  • Use a lifetime budget where the platform requires it.
  • Leave form and shop ads running all day.
  • Compare cost per result before and after.

Next step

Pull last month's enquiries by hour. If many arrived when nobody could reply, decide between scheduling and a better out-of-hours reply.

Frequently asked questions

Can I run Facebook ads only during business hours?

Yes. Meta lets you set an ad schedule, which has typically required a lifetime budget with start and end dates. Check the current option in Ads Manager. Scheduling suits call and message ads that need a live reply, rather than forms or online shops.

Does ad scheduling save money?

It can, if ads outside your hours bring calls nobody answers. It can also raise costs, because the platform has fewer hours to find responsive people. Compare cost per enquiry or sale before and after, rather than assuming scheduling saves money.

What times of day do social ads work best?

It varies by business and audience. Many consumer audiences are active in the evening, while B2B audiences are more active in working hours. Look at your own enquiries by hour of day before restricting, rather than relying on general advice about best times.
