Key takeaways
Social media agency minimum ad spend exists because management takes similar time whatever the budget. A sensible UK paid social floor for a small business is about £300–£500 a month in media, and LinkedIn usually needs £1,000 a month or more. Below that, fees can outweigh spend.
- £300–£500 a month is a sensible paid social media floor for a small business.
- LinkedIn ads usually need £1,000 a month or more in media.
- Management takes similar hours on small and large budgets.
- Below the floor, organic content or boosting may be better value.

Chat on WhatsApp →What is a minimum ad spend?
A minimum ad spend is the lowest monthly media budget an agency will manage. It is separate from the management fee. The media budget goes to Meta, LinkedIn or TikTok. The fee pays for the agency's time setting up, testing, optimising and reporting.
Why do agencies set a minimum?
Setting up campaigns, building audiences, testing creative and reporting take roughly the same hours whether you spend £200 or £2,000. On a very small budget, the management fee can be larger than the media, and there is too little data to learn what works. Minimums protect both sides from that.
What minimum is fair in the UK?
For Facebook and Instagram, a floor of about £300–£500 a month in media is a sensible minimum for a small UK business to test properly. LinkedIn ads cost more per click, so £1,000 a month or more is more realistic. These are indicative figures, not a GBL price list.
- Facebook and Instagram: about £300–£500 a month.
- LinkedIn: about £1,000 a month or more.
- TikTok: similar floor to Meta, plus regular video.
- Management fee: separate, typically £300–£1,000 a month.

Chat on WhatsApp →What if your budget is below the minimum?
Below the floor, put the money into content and organic reach first, or boost your best-performing posts yourself with a clear audience. Once organic posts show which messages work, a small paid budget goes further. Some agencies also offer a lighter set-up and training option.
When is a high minimum a red flag?
A minimum well above what your market needs, or one that grows each month without results, deserves questions. Ask how the agency calculated it, what results similar businesses saw and how quickly you can reduce spend. A fair minimum is explained, not just stated.
What does this look like in practice?
A pattern we see with UK small businesses: a few hundred pounds a month is spread across several platforms, so no campaign gets enough data to improve. Global Bridge Labs (GBL) concentrates the budget on one platform and one offer until the numbers show it works, then expands.
Minimum spend checklist
Ask these before agreeing a budget.
- What is the minimum, and why?
- Is the fee separate from media spend?
- Which platform should come first?
- How long before results are judged?
- How quickly can spend be reduced?

Frequently asked questions
What is a typical minimum ad spend for an agency?
For Facebook and Instagram, a sensible floor for a small UK business is about £300–£500 a month in media, paid to the platform. LinkedIn usually needs £1,000 a month or more. The management fee is separate, typically £300–£1,000 a month at UK rates.
Is the minimum ad spend paid to the agency?
It should not be. Media spend is best paid directly from your own ad account to the platform, so you can see exactly what was spent. The agency's management fee is invoiced separately. Be wary of arrangements where all spend passes through the agency.
Can I run ads on £100 a month?
You can boost posts or run a small local campaign yourself, but £100 a month gives very little data and rarely justifies a management fee. At that level, focus on content and organic reach, and use the budget to boost your best posts to a defined audience.
Why does LinkedIn need a higher budget?
LinkedIn clicks usually cost more than on Facebook or Instagram because of its professional targeting. That means the same budget buys fewer clicks and less data. A larger budget is needed to learn which ads bring qualified B2B leads.
