Key takeaways

Social media packages vs a custom quote is a choice between speed and fit. Packages are quick to buy and easy to compare on price. A custom quote takes a conversation but matches your channels, volume and reply times. For most UK SMEs spending over about £950 a month, a scoped quote is fairer.

  • Packages: fixed tiers, clear price, fast to buy.
  • Custom quote: scoped to your channels, volume and reply times.
  • Packages: you may pay for posts or channels you do not need.
  • Custom quote: easier to judge on hours and outcomes.

What is a social media package?

A social media package is a pre-set bundle of deliverables sold at a fixed monthly price, usually in tiers such as bronze, silver and gold. Each tier adds posts, channels or extras. The agency designs the bundle once and sells it to many clients.

What do tiered packages usually contain?

Tiers are usually built on post counts and channel counts. In terms of UK market bands, entry tiers sit around £500–£950 a month for publishing, middle tiers around £950–£2,500 with content production and replies, and top tiers at £2,500 and above with video and paid media. These are indicative bands.

  • Entry tier: scheduling and light captions, content supplied by you.
  • Middle tier: content production, two channels, replies, monthly report.
  • Top tier: video, paid media management, more channels.

What is a custom quote?

A custom quote is a fee written for one client after a conversation about goals, channels, content volume, reply times and reporting. It normally comes with a scope of work. It takes longer to produce, and it should explain why the fee is what it is.

When does a package make sense?

A package makes sense when your needs are simple and close to what the tier offers: one or two channels, a steady posting rhythm, and content you can mostly supply. It also suits a tight budget, where the time spent on a tailored proposal would not be repaid.

When is a custom quote better?

A custom quote is better when you need replies handled in set hours, when video or paid campaigns matter, when you have several locations, or when a regulated sector needs extra approval steps. Packages price these as add-ons, and add-ons quickly cost more than a scoped fee.

How do you compare a package with a quote?

Convert both to hours and inclusions. Ask how many hours each represents, who does them, whether replies and reporting are included, and what the extras cost. A package that looks cheaper often has fewer hours and more exclusions once the comparison is laid out.

Which questions show whether a tier fits?

Five questions show whether a package fits or will need add-ons. If you answer yes to two or more, ask for a custom quote, because the add-ons will probably cost more than a fee scoped around your needs from the start.

  • Do you need replies covered in set hours?
  • Do you need video every month?
  • Do you run paid campaigns?
  • Do posts need compliance or multi-person approval?
  • Do you have more than one location?

What does this look like in practice?

A pattern we see with UK clinics and professional firms: a mid-tier package covers the posts, then approvals, compliance checks and weekend replies arrive as extras. Global Bridge Labs (GBL) quotes a fixed monthly fee against a written scope instead of tiers, so those needs are priced at the start.

Packages or quote checklist

Work through these before choosing.

  • List what you need: channels, volume, replies, reporting.
  • Mark which package tier comes closest.
  • Price the add-ons you would need on top.
  • Ask for the hours behind each option.
  • Compare total monthly cost, not the tier price.

Next step

Tell us what you need and which package you are considering. We will show how a scoped monthly fee would compare.

Frequently asked questions

Are social media packages good value?

They can be for simple needs: one or two channels, steady posting and content you supply. They are poorer value when you need replies, video, paid campaigns or approvals, because these are charged as add-ons on top of the tier price.

Why do some agencies not publish package prices?

Because the right fee depends on channels, content volume, reply hours and reporting. Agencies that quote against a written scope, including GBL, price the actual work. Ask for a one-page costed plan so you still have a clear figure to compare.

What is the difference between bronze, silver and gold packages?

Usually the number of posts and channels, and whether extras such as video, paid media management and community management are included. The names are not standard, so compare what each tier contains, not what it is called. Ask each agency for the hours behind each tier.

Is a custom quote more expensive than a package?

Not necessarily. A custom quote removes things you do not need and includes things a package would charge extra for. For businesses spending around £950 a month or more, a scoped fee is often equal or better value.
