What is retargeting?

Retargeting, also called remarketing, is showing ads to people who have already interacted with your business, such as visiting your website, watching your videos or engaging with your posts. Because they already know you, these audiences often convert at a lower cost than cold audiences.

How much does retargeting management cost?

Installing the Meta pixel or Conversions API, setting events and building audiences takes 2 to 5 hours, about £150–£500 at the £75–£100 an hour implied by typical UK retainers. Running retargeting alongside existing campaigns adds 2 to 4 hours a month, about £150–£400. These are indicative figures, not a GBL price list.

  • Pixel or Conversions API set-up: indicative £150–£500.
  • Monthly retargeting management: indicative £150–£400.
  • Creative for warm audiences: a small set of variations.
  • Media budget: usually a small share of total spend.

How many visitors do you need for retargeting?

Retargeting needs enough people to show ads to. A website with a few hundred visitors a month creates a small audience, so only a modest budget can be spent before the same people see the ad too often. Busier sites and video viewers create larger, more useful audiences.

What privacy rules apply to retargeting?

Retargeting relies on cookies and similar technologies, which under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) need consent for advertising use. Your cookie banner must give a real choice, so some visitors will not be retargeted. Plan for smaller audiences than your visitor numbers suggest.

When is retargeting not worth paying for?

It is not worth separate fees when website traffic is very low, or when the business sells mostly through phone calls and visits that cannot be tracked. In those cases, retargeting people who engaged with your social posts or videos can still work and needs no website pixel.

What does this look like in practice?

A pattern we see with UK clinic and e-commerce clients: many people visit the booking or product page but leave without acting. Global Bridge Labs (GBL) sets up consent-aware tracking, builds a warm audience of recent visitors and runs a simple reminder ad with a clear next step.

Frequently asked questions

How much does retargeting cost to set up?

As an indicative UK figure, installing the Meta pixel or Conversions API, setting events and building audiences takes 2 to 5 hours and costs about £150–£500. Managing retargeting alongside existing campaigns then adds about £150–£400 a month.

Is retargeting worth it for a small business?

It can be, because people who already know you are more likely to act. The limit is audience size. With very few website visitors, there is little to retarget, so start with people who engaged with your social posts or videos instead.

Do I need cookie consent for retargeting?

Yes. Under PECR, cookies and similar technologies used for advertising need the visitor's consent. Your cookie banner must offer a genuine choice, and visitors who decline should not be tracked for ads. This means retargeting audiences are smaller than total visitors.

How often should retargeting ads be shown?

Often enough to remind, not so often that people are annoyed. Watch the frequency figure in your ads account, and refresh the creative or narrow the time window if the same people see the ad many times a week.
