A brand ambassador programme typically costs an indicative £450–£1,500 to set up (6 to 15 hours) and £300–£800 a month to manage, plus ambassador rewards such as products, discounts or fees. What is a brand ambassador programme?

A brand ambassador programme recruits customers, fans or small creators who genuinely like your brand to post about it regularly in return for rewards. It builds steady, authentic word of mouth, rather than the short burst of a paid influencer post.

What does it cost?

Set-up covers rules, application form, brief, reward structure and contracts, typically 6 to 15 hours, about £450–£1,500. Ongoing management of 4 to 8 hours a month, about £300–£800, covers briefing, approvals, sharing posts and reporting. Rewards are a separate cost.

  • Set-up and rules: £450–£1,500.
  • Monthly management: £300–£800.
  • Rewards: your budget.
  • Ambassador software: optional.

What rules apply?

If ambassadors receive payment, free products or other rewards and you have any control over what they post, ASA and CAP rules require the content to be labelled as advertising. Brief ambassadors on claims they must not make.

When is a programme not worth it?

When you lack enthusiastic customers, a programme has no one to recruit. When you cannot manage it monthly, ambassadors drift away. Start with five to ten fans before building something bigger.

What does this look like in practice?

A pattern we see: a brand recruits many ambassadors who post once and stop. A smaller group with a monthly brief and recognition usually produces steadier content.

Ambassador programme checklist

  • Recruit genuine fans first.
  • Set clear rules and rewards.
  • Require ad labelling on rewarded posts.
  • Send a short monthly brief.
  • Track sales from ambassador codes.

Next step

List ten customers who already post about you unprompted. They are your first ambassadors.
